Samuel Minot Jones attended Amherst Academy, which became the nucleus of what is now Amherst College. After the death of his father, Thomas Jones, when Samuel was 17, he decided not to enter Amherst College, instead going to work as an apprentice at Cutler’s Store in Amherst to learn business.
