Amherst House Block in the 1920's

Amherst (Mass.)

Description

The Amherst House Block stood at the corner of South Pleasant and Amity Streets. The Amherst House Hotel was in operation on the upper levels and a number of businesses were located on the street level. Note the Jones Library signs on the second floor. The Jones Library rented rooms here from 1921 through 1926. This building burned to the ground in December of 1926.

The two additional images present close-up views of men loitering in front of some of the businesses.
