This building was designed by William Fenno Pratt to replace the one which was destroyed in the fire of July 4, 1879, which also destroyed the Amherst House. Visible business signs include Edwards & Bigelow, C. S. Gates, Dentist, and Jackson & Cutler, successors to George Cutler.
