Description

A large, partly broken metal saw hangs on a chain tied to a plank nailed to two trees. Two black boys stand near it, one ringing the saw, and the other leaning against the tree, looking on. The caption reads: "Nearby is a little church that belongs to the Negroes, and the larger boy is sounding a call to worship. Such a substitute for a bell is not uncommon among the poorer Negroes.
