Description

Bronze statue of Deacon Samuel Chapin, called The Puritan, framed by the ivy covered church, Christ Church Cathedral on Chestnut Street) behind the statue. Chapin is wearing a puritan hat, a cloak over his shoulders and is holding a walking stick in an outstretched right hand and a bible in his left hand. The inscription on the statue reads: 1595 ANNO DOMINI 1675 DEACON SAMUEL CHAPIN ONE OF THE FOUNDERS OF SPRINGFIELD.
