Information on reverse reads, "Amherst Record, Wed., Dec. 14, 1977, p. 6 Amherst Record, Sun., April 8, 1973, p.6 "Stealthily He Creeps - This fine old picture of a delinquent library customer stealing up upon Jones Library's return box is a vintage fine-free scene. During December all persons with overdue books may return them with no fines levied."

This is the old fire station which stood on North Pleasant Street during its deconstruction. It was built in 1860 and razed in 1930. The gambrel roof of the new Jones Library building is visible in the background.
